Goten's Evolution
This section is meant to give you an idea of how Goten changes, both physically and mentally through DBZ/GT. I had a request from someone asking me to 'fill in the gaps', so I've also added what I think Goten would have looked like growing up during periods which aren't included in DBZ. Apologies for the sketchy-ness, I kinda rushed these because of the amount of time it was taking me to finish this section.
ie. Pictures with blue backgrounds are accurate and have basis in the series. Pictures with pink are my guesses.

0-1: Goten as a baby. (Isn't he cute? ^_^) Footage of Goten and Trunks growing up is shown at the end of Movie 11, so at the very least we know he kept the same hairstyle until he was seven.

3-4: Once again, based on the footage at the end of Movie 12.

7: When Goten was first introduced into the anime of DBZ, he'd only had one very brief appearance in the manga, so assumably the animators didn't have a lot to work from. In this 'stage' he's smaller, looks a little younger and has bigger eyes than he does later on in the Buu saga.
Also because of his lack of development in the manga at that stage, for the first few episodes after Goten is introduced, he doesn't say much except that Gohan's Great Saiyaman costume is cool.

7: About the point where Gohan starts training with Goten, Goten's appearance changes a bit. You could say the animators got used to drawing him.
During the Buu saga Goten does seem to mature a little (perhaps more in the manga than in the anime due to the number of strange fillers they chucked in). There's a point in there where Goten believes that his whole family is dead (Gohan was off training, Goku was dead, Chichi was killed by Buu before his eyes) and Goten almost snapped. That's a big step away from being a little kid running around finding dinosaurs to play with.

9-10: Now we're into the predictions... After meeting Gokuu, Goten probably kept his hair in the same style for a while. I can see Goten looking up to Gokuu as a role model for a while at least. |

12-13: ...and after a while he might have simply gotten sick of being told that he looked like his dad, or being mistaken for him, and let his hair grow. |

14-15: Chichi could have told him to cut his hair, 'cos it looked sloppy. Looks kinda like Gohan... |

17-18: ...and he might have let it grow out again into his hairstyle when he was seventeen. |

27: Goten in GT. I can't really think of any good reason why Goten would have ended up with hair shaped like this, other than it being the result of an unfortunate accident with a blow drier. Or a lawnmower, perhaps. o_o
Goten seems to lose everything that made him special in DBZ, and instead turn into a girl chaser. Honestly! (You'd think girls would be running after him, rather than him after them ;P) He seems to lose all importance to the series, and ends up in the group of characters that don't actually have any good part in the plot, but are there anyway.
